Risk of Listeria Infection

Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause serious infections, especially in pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Recommendations from the CDC and FDA

The CDC and FDA recommend the following actions:

* Discard any recalled Rizo-López Foods aged cotija cheese. * Thoroughly clean and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the cheese. * Contact your healthcare provider if you have consumed the recalled cheese and are experiencing any symptoms of Listeria infection.

Investigation and Outbreak Summary

The FDA and CDC are collaborating with state and local partners to investigate the outbreak. As of February 6, 2024, the outbreak has been linked to at least 26 illnesses in 11 states. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
